STORAGE
Tablets should be kept at room temperature between 15-30 C (59-86 F).

PRESCRIBED FOR
Tadalafil is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, or impotence.

DOSAGE
The recommended initial dose of Tadalafil is 10 mg per day, which have to be taken orally before sexual activity. This prescribed amount is a usual daily dose for the majority of men. This dose can be increased up to 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg per day depending on the feedback or side effects. The maximal duration of the Tadalafil's effect is 36 hours. Patients who take medicines extending the level of Tadalafil in the blood shouldn't surpass a total dose of 10 mg in 72 hours (See “DRUG “). As food doesn't influence on absorption of Tadalafil from the intestine the drug can be taken while eating as well as on an empty stomach.

DRUG INTERACTIONS
The following medicines can diminish the ability of the organism to destroy and eliminate Tadalafil: erythromycin, ketoconazole (Nizoral), (Sporanox), indinavir (Crixivan) and ritonavir (Norvir). Hence these medications can heighten the level of Tadalafil in the blood. If these medicines have to be taken simultaneously with Tadalafil, its dose has to be reduced to avoid side effects, which can be provoked with high level of Tadalafil in the blood. If the patient takes nitrates for angina, Tadalafil can become a reason of heart pain or perhaps even a heart attack as a result of of heart rate and lowering of blood pressure. So it's highly recommended not to take Tadalafil together with nitrates. Tadalafil can also heighten the blood pressure as it lessens effects of some alpha-blocking medicines, such as terazosin (Hytrin), which are principally used for treatment of high blood pressure or increment of the prostate. The patients, who take the alpha-blockers, have to take the stable dose of these drugs before starting to take Tadalafil. In these cases at the initial stage the lowest doses of Tadalafil should be taken. In cases of taking Tadalafil, the alpha-blockers should be taken beginning with the lowest dose. As Tadalafil like alcohol lower blood pressure it's highly recommended not to mix these substances, because as a result of such mixing there can be dizziness, headaches and increased heart rate.

The drug isn't approved for usage by women.

NURSING MOTHERS
Breastfeeding mothers were not testing for taking Tadalafil.

SIDE EFFECTS
When using Tadalafil the following accompanying effects can take place: headache, facial flushing (reddening), nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea, and flu-like symptoms. Tadalafil can also become the cause of low blood pressure, spasm of , breach of color perception and anomalistic ejaculation.
There were cases of continuous erections, or priapism (aching erection that lasts more than six hours) fixed after taking Tadalafil. If erection lasts more than four hours you have to recourse. There is causation between using of Tadalafil and chest pain, heart attack, palpitation, hastened heart rate, stroke and death, but it's not confirmed if these side effects are result of using Tadalafil or they are direct outcome of sexual activity itself.

As to Sildenafil (Viagra), its half life is just 4 hours.

Food and Drug Administration found the product contains tadalafil, which makes the product an unapproved drug. Tadalafil is a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction. Tadalafil can interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs and could lower blood pressure to levels. People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high or heart disease often take nitrates, according to the FDA. No illnesses have been reported.

The Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said it was asking for the return of batch number 65542 of counterfeit Reductil 15mg.

The drugs were discovered within the UK supply chain, the second such discovery in recent days.

Last week, counterfeit Cialis capsules, used to treat erectile , were also discovered.

Prior to that, the last discovery of counterfeit drugs in the UK supply chain was in 1994.

However, the leading drug company Pfizer recently warned of the dangers of fake drugs entering the legitimate system.

It said this could happen because of “parallel packaging” - where drugs made in one country are repackaged for another.

Concerns

The MHRA said that initial tests on the fake Reductil tablets did not indicate that it posed an immediate risk to patients.

It advised anyone who had the product with the batch number 65542 anywhere on the pack should return it to where it was obtained.

Professor Kent Woods, chief executive of the MHRA, said: “Although the quality of counterfeit medicines cannot be guaranteed, there is no indication from testing
of the counterfeit product that it poses an immediate risk to patients.

“If patients have any concerns about possible side effects they should discuss them with their doctor.”

The MHRA said that no batches and by Abbott Laboratories Ltd, the licence holder of the authentic Reductil tablets, were affected by this recall and there was no concern with the Abbott product.

David Pruce, Director of Practice and Quality Improvement at the Royal Society of Great Britain, said: “We know that counterfeit medicines are a world-wide problem but prior to the identification of these two products, counterfeiting in the UK had been a rare occurrence.

“The society has been working with the MHRA through our team of Inspectors and we ask pharmacists to co-operate with the MHRA’s and to be alert for counterfeit medicines.”

He added: “Patients are advised to contact their doctor or pharmacist in the event of any concern.”
