Uprima. Uprima is a tablet which is taken under the tongue. You place the tablet under your tongue and wait for it to dissolve, which can take about ten minutes. It acts within 15 to 25 minutes and can be effective for up to two hours. Uprima won’t work without sexual stimulation.

Cialis. This drug comes in tablet form and can be taken from 30 minutes before sexual activity. With sexual stimulation Cialis may be effective for up to 36 hours after taking the tablet. Like Viagra, it’s not an aphrodisiac and doesn’t increase sexual desire.

Levitra. This tablet should be taken ten minutes to one hour before sexual activity. With sexual stimulation Levitra can be effective up to 12 hours after taking the tablet. Like Viagra and Cialis it is not an aphrodisiac and does not increase sexual desire.

Hormone treatment. Only a small of cases of erectile dysfunction are caused by hormone . The most frequent hormone is a reduced level of the male sex hormone testosterone which can be restored by appropriate hormone replacement. It’s unwise to take testosterone preparations unless you’ve had tests that confirm a deficiency.

Penile prosthesis. You shouldn’t consider a prosthesis (implant) until other forms of treatment have been tried. There are two types of implant. The semi-rigid type keeps the penis rigid all the time but lets you bend it downwards when you’re not having sex. The hydraulic type is more sophisticated and causes the penis to stiffen when a pump (implanted in the scrotum) is activated.

Surgical treatment. A few cases of impotence are caused by abnormalities in blood flow in and out of the penis and can be treated with surgery.

Ever wondered how The News Quiz is put together? It sounds so slick on the radio but how difficult can it be to get a bunch of funny people together to read the newspapers then talk about them into a microphone? We sent a member of the website staff to follow the production team around for the week as they prepared the first programme in a new series for broadcast.

Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 February:

“I like it but it was on page 15…”

The start of the week finds News Quiz Producer Simon Nicholls in his House office surrounded by piles of newspapers and listener . The panel for this Friday’s show - Alan Coren, Andy Hamilton, Linda Smith and Sandi Toksvig - have all confirmed their attendance, so now it’s time to find some questions that they can get their comedy teeth into.

While the teem with Iraq-related stories, the tabloids are obsessing over Michael Jackson but our job is to select sixteen different stories for the four rounds that make up the quiz, following this broad model:

Round 1 - pages 1-3 of the newspapers (politics, war, Europe)
Round 2 - pages 4-8 (education, health, housing)
Round 3 - lifestyle, science, arts, etc
Round 4 - silly stories (animals, record breakers, funny foreigners)

The other main task of the day is to sift through the mail and select appropriate news cuttings for the team to read out at Thursday’s recording - short, punchy ones for the , longer ones for the panel and anything to do with parrots for Alan Coren.

The News Quiz office receives an average of 20 letters and 15 emails a day, made up of funny news stories from around the world, fan mail, unsolicited jokes and letters of complaint about a perceived political bias in the show.

Wednesday 5 February: “It’s been quite a thin week…”

Another pile of newspapers to digest this morning. Lord Irvine’s pay rise and the adventures of a pregnant cow catch the producer’s eye and he types up a shortlist of stories to take along to the writers meeting.

Simon , George Poles and Paul McKenzie are The News Quiz’s very own gag factory, and it’s their job to write the questions for the show and the related jokes Simon Hoggart rounds each question off with.

The first task is to pick eight news stories from the shortlist. An item about Frieda Hughes is suggested and rejected but Gordon Brown, Rowan Williams and a rival to Viagra all make the grade. The writers then share out the potential questions - George gets Cialis, the Archers virus and a pregnant cow, Simon opts for Michael Jackson, the army and asylum seekers, leaving Paul with the House of Lords and the economy - and they head back to their computers to try and find something funny to say about each one.

Simon, the producer, also takes the opportunity to try out the humorous press cuttings on the writers. Some elicit a smile, many end up in the bin.

Most of the afternoon is taken up with email exchanges between the writers and the producer as questions and jokes fly back and forth across the digital divide.

Click here to listen to the team unearth the comic potential of some major news stories

On to Thursday - recording day

                        NEW YORK (Reuters) -
Eli Lilly and Co (LLY.N) on Tuesday
said fourth-quarter profit rose on lower taxes and
sales of its medicines, including newer
treatments for depression, diabetes and cancer.

Lilly's shares rose 1.8 percent, amid slight declines for
the drug sector.

“Lilly had top-line strength across its portfolio, with
each major therapeutic segment above our outlook,” Bear Stearns
analyst John Boris said. He noted the company's tax rate of
20.4 percent was less than his 22 percent forecast.

The Indianapolis drugmaker earned $854 million, or 78 cents
per share, compared with $132 million, or 12 cents per share,
in the year-ago period, when Lilly took a big charge for a
settlement with patients who claimed to have been harmed by its
Zyprexa schizophrenia drug.

Excluding special items, earnings rose 6 percent to 90
cents per share. Analysts on average had expected 89 cents per
share, according to Reuters Estimates. The company took two
charges, totaling 12 cents per share, related largely to
restructuring and acquisitions.

Company global sales jumped 22 percent in the quarter to
$5.19 billion, ahead of the Reuters Estimates forecast of $4.81
billion. Sales would have increased 18 percent if not for the
weak dollar, which boosts the value of overseas sales.

Despite the strong results, analysts cautioned that Lilly's
earnings prospects may deteriorate by 2011, when Zyprexa faces
generic .

Lilly late last month asked the U.S. Food and Drug
to approve its prasugrel blood-clot preventer
and was counting on it to offset the expected sharp sales for
Zyprexa.

“But we are cautious as we think the FDA process will be
extremely drawn out,” Natixis Bleichroeder analyst Jon LeCroy
said in a research note, due to concerns about bleeding risks
linked to prasugrel in clinical trials. He predicted it will
not be introduced for another three years.

Quarterly sales of Zyprexa rose 10 percent to $1.27
billion, in a continuing rebound from earlier declines that had
been sparked by concerns that the drug causes weight gain,
which raises diabetes risk.

Revenue from impotence treatment Cialis, which works far
longer than Pfizer Inc's (PFE.N) Viagra and was recently
approved in a new low-dose daily formulation, jumped 29 percent
to $346 million.

Sales of Alimta, used to treat tumors caused by exposure to
asbestos, soared 42 percent to $244 million, helped by its
other approved use against lung cancer. Sales of Gemzar, an
older lung cancer drug, rose 15 percent to $426 million.

Injectable diabetes drug Byetta, sold in with
Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc (AMLN.O), gained ground from its
wide use alongside oral treatments and its ability to help
patients lose weight. Its global sales soared 34 percent to
$184 million.

Humalog, a rapid-acting insulin used at mealtimes, was also
a top performer during the quarter. Its sales jumped 18 percent
to $414 million, helped by price increases and sizzling growth
in overseas markets.

Lilly said it is on track to meet its 2008 earnings target,
excluding special items, of $3.85 to $4 per share — driven by
growing demand for Cymbalta, Cialis, Byetta, Alimta and
Humalog. That would reflect profit growth of 9 percent to 13
percent from 2007 results.

Lilly's shares were up 94 cents at $52.34 in afternoon
trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
